Shiva-Parvati Small Copper Idol as Ardhanareshwara

Fine copper idol of Shiva in Ardhanarishvara form. This is a must have! Very well handcrafted copper idol of Shiva and Parvati in their form as Ardhanareshwara.

According to Skanda Purana, Parvati requested Shiva to let her reside with him in an limb-to-limb embrace . This union of Shiva and Shakti is called Ardhanareshwara. While there are many stories in Puranas as to how Ardhanareshwara came to manifest, the idea behind the concept is that both Male and Female aspects are there in the supreme Brahman and so in every individual. These stories are not ‘mythology ’ as they are called to be but these are concrete divine events that are pregnant with sublime concepts being the Leela (sport) of the supreme.

As the name suggests this statue shows both Shiva and Parvati as a single whole. Parvati occupies the left half of Shiva ’s body. Half the statue is male and half female. The right half is Shiva. He holds a Parashu (axe) in his upper right hand and Trishula (trident) in his lower right. A snake is coiled around Trishula.

The left half is Parvati. She holds a Padma (lotus) in her upper hand and the lower hand dangles down in feminine grace. The copper idol is majestically placed on double pedestal, round and square.
