Copper Statue Of Four Armed Shikhivahana Kartikeya

An excellent small copper figurine of Kartikeya as Shikhivahana. This handsome copper statue is of Kartikeya as <em>Shikhivahana</em>. <em>Shikhin</em> is another name for peacock in Sanskrit and Vahana means mount. So Kartikeya who has peacock for his mount is also called Shikhivahana. <br> <br>Kartikeya is seen four-armed. He bears <em>vajra</em> (thunderbolt) and <em>shakti</em> (energy) in his upper two hands. His right hand is lifted in <em>abhaya mudra</em> (fearlessness granting pose) and left hand extends to rest on his thigh. His favourite javelin called <em>Vel</em> rests on his right shoulder. <br> <br>His mount peacock is perched at his feet. <br> <br>Kartikeya is the younger son of Shiva and Parvati. He is the commander of the army of gods and is famed to have led the gods in their fight against <em>Tarakasura</em>, one of the demon kings who was destined to be killed by Kartikeya. <br> <br>Kartikeya is a powerful deity worshipped ardently in South India. He is considered as the absolute god by the <em>Kaumaras</em>, the followers of <em>Kumara</em> sects of Hinduism.
