Buddha Thai Wood Carving

This fantastic Buddha statue carved in Mango wood is a great example of Thai carving and colouring techniques. <br> <br>Buddha here is shown standing, holding his loose robes gracefully. His gaze is downcast with a hint of smile on lips. <br> <br>Earlobes are elongated and hung as is usual in Buddha statues in general. This feature represents wisdom. <br> <br>He holds a fruit in his right hand. This fruit represents Nirvana. The casual manner in which he holds it is symbolic of his total possession of the highest goal of life. <br> <br>The piece is coloured ink-blue with a rubbing / wash based technique. The golden border of Buddha's robes and golden crown stand out beautifully on a dark blue background.
