Yamunotri is one of the four pious pilgrimage sites in the Chardham Yatra. The Yamuna River originates from here. It is located at an altitude of 3,293 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Here, Yamunotri Temple is the main attraction. Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal had it built.

It is famous for the Gangotri temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. It is believed that this river fell downwards from heaven when King Bhagirath observed stringent penance to eliminate his forefather’s sins.
